Steps for Parents employing a coach to work with their child
- Get names of at least three referees (do not accept a written reference from the coach – instead ask for contact details of referees that you can approach directly)
- Ask to see his/her PVG certificate – check the date and do not accept a certificate that is more than 3 years old.
- Ask to see his/her qualifications, if required
Points to remember when the coach is employed:
- Your child should enjoy their coaching sessions – keep an eye out for any change of behaviour towards the sessions
- Unless it is an emergency, the coach should not take young players in their car. If this happens, keep an eye on the length of time of the journey and insist that the coach/your child contacts you to let you know that they will be travelling in the coach’s car
- The coach should keep you up-to-date with your child’s progress, and all communication about sessions should be done through you, NOT directly with your child.
- Your child should not share numbers or social media contacts with the coach
