2016 SOGP day 1 Matthew CarderScotland’s Matthew Carder must win two rounds of qualifying today to earn a place in the main draw at the Orleans International.

If the fourth qualifying seed achieves that he will face team-mate Kieran Merrilees in tomorrow’s first round proper.

Carder starts with a bye then takes on Germany’s Jonathan Persson or France’s Corentin Fahl this afternoon. If Carder comes through his second-round test he would play for a place in the main draw tonight.

Christopher and Matthew Grimley 2016 SOGP day 1GLASGOW twins Matthew and Christopher Grimley and Mauchline’s Holly Newall have been seeded for the individual events at the European Under 19 Championships to be played in the French city of Mulhouse from 11-16 April.

In today’s draw at Badminton Europe’s Copenhagen headquarters the Grimleys, who are No. 4 seeds, were given a first-round bye in the boys’ doubles before facing Italy’s Fabio Caponio and Giovanni Toti or Ukraine’s Roman Altunyan and Oleksandr Chakalov.

Glasgow2017 worlds logo Landscape CMYKBADMINTONscotland and the Badminton World Federation have announced a high-quality line-up for the two-day Coaching Conference to be held in Glasgow during the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2017.

Seven keynote speakers, including former players Xu Huaiwen and Pi Hongyan and top coach Kenneth Larsen, were unveiled today for the Conference in August at Glasgow’s National Badminton Academy.

And there is the prospect of more star names to come as the countdown to the World Championships gains pace with less than 20 weeks to go before the Emirates Arena stages the big event from 21-27 August.
