BADMINTONscotland is the National Governing Body for the sport of badminton in Scotland with a wide remit to actively promote and encourage badminton development from grass roots through local leagues and competitions to the highest playing level, including providing services for players and coaches. Through funding from the National Lottery, corporate sponsorship and partners, we administer the game, provide services to our members and promote and organise events at every level.

Badminton is one of the fastest growing participation sports in the country. It is estimated that between four and five million enthusiasts enjoy badminton in Great Britain, at an age range of between seven and seventy.

Badminton exercises no limits through economic status, age, fitness and athletic ability. The sport is enjoyed socially and competitively by both men and women.

BADMINTONscotland is recognised worldwide as an excellent presenter of major events having recently staged:

1970 Commonwealth Games badminton event
1986 Commonwealth Games badminton event
1992 European Championships
1994 European Zone of the Thomas and Uber Cups World Team Championships (with a record entry of 68 teams)

BADMINTONscotland was privileged to host in 1997 the 5th World Team and 10th Individual Championships at Scotstoun in Glasgow. This event was the first World Championships in an indoor Olympic sport to be held in Scotland.

BADMINTONscotland was delighted that its record and experience were recognised once again by the International Badminton Federation who awarded us the hosting of the 2007 World Team Badminton Championships for the Sudirman Cup which we ran along with our partners Glasgow City Council, UKSport, Eventscotland andsportscotland at Scotstoun International Arena from 10 to 17 June 2007.

BADMINTONscotland is excited to be hosting the Total BWF World Championships in 2017 alongside our event partners Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, EventScotland and UK Sport. The TOTAL BWF World Championships is the most prestigious tournament in the badminton calendar, rivalled only by the Olympic Games, and will attract the highest ranked players in the sport to Glasgow’s Emirates Arena between the 21st and 27th of August 2017. This is testament to the reputation that BADMINTONscotland has acquired for organising first class events on a world stage.
