Alex Dunn and Adam Hall began their challenge at the 18th Victor Dutch International 2017 with a straight-games win over Steve Olesen and Mathias Weber Estrup.
The young Scots won 23-21 21-16 but not before having to work hard to take the first game. They let slip a 20-17 lead and then had to save a game point after the Danish pair won four points in a row to lead 21-20 before Dunn and Hall took the opener on their first game point.
They were always in control in the second game and won the contest on their third match point after leading all the way from 1-1.
That earned them a tough test tonight against Belgian top seeds Mathias Dierickx and Freek Golinski, a pair ranked nearly 200 places higher.
Scotland’s other contenders in Wateringen are Julie MacPherson and Eleanor O’Donnell, who are the second seeds. They face Dutch pair Milou Lugters and Alyssa Tirtosentono in the women's doubles second round after an opening bye.
O’Donnell is looking for early success at senior level after signing off her junior career last weekend when she and Dunn won a mixed doubles silver medal last weekend at the European Junior Championships in Mulhouse.
