BADMINTONscotland to launch new tartan prior to the World Championships

BADMINTONscotland is delighted to announce the launch of a new tartan designed especially for the TOTAL BWF World Championships in Glasgow.

Working in partnership with Slanj Kilts, who have produced tartan for the Glasgow Warriors and the Scotland National Rugby Team, a bespoke design has been created using the colours of BADMINTONscotland and the TOTAL BWF World Championships.

The design, as skirts, dresses and trews, will be worn during ceremonial events, as well as by event hosts and hostesses at both the Emirates Arena and championship hotels around the city.

The pattern is designed to look fresh and contemporary, especially in photographs and in television coverage, with the white cross through the navy blue giving the appearance of the saltire.

“We are delighted to see the TOTAL BWF World Championships come to life in this new, fresh tartan,” said Anne Smillie, Chief Executive of BADMINTONscotland.

“Slanj Kilts have a wealth of experience within the Highlandwear industry, and were the perfect choice in creating a unique and tailored design specific for the TOTAL BWF World Championships due to their great reputation.

“I am confident the tartan will look fantastic, will be well-received and will provide a lasting legacy for many years to come.”

The world’s finest badminton players will battle it out when the TOTAL BWF World Championships get underway in Glasgow on Monday, hoping to be crowned champions come August 27 at the Emirates Arena.

The last edition, held in Jakarta in 2015, saw Chen Long take the men’s singles title, while the female equivalent went to Spain’s Carolina Marin.

Lin Dan will be among those to watch this year as he faces Scotland’s Kieran Merrilees in the first round, while other home hopes will rest with Kirsty Gilmour – seeded 16th for the women’s singles.

The TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships 2017 will be staged at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena from 21-27 August.

It is being delivered by BADMINTONscotland in partnership with Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Council and with funding support from EventScotland and The National Lottery through UK Sport.
