Adam Hall will be eager to avenge his Yonex National Championships doubles defeat by Martin Campbell and Patrick MacHugh.
But he didn’t expect to be getting the chance to do so at next month’s Yonex All England Open Championships in Birmingham.
The three Scottish players in Birmingham meet in the first round of men’s doubles qualifying on March 7 when Hall and England’s Peter Mills face Campbell and MacHugh.
Hall and Mills’ brief partnership has been full of promise with them reaching the final of the Scottish Open Grand Prix in Glasgow in November. But this may be their last appearance together after funding issues hit the GB programme hard.
Whichever pair wins the opener in Birmingham will go on to face Belgium’s third qualifying seeds Matijs Dierickx and Freek Golinski or Japan’s Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe later in the same day for a place in the main draw and a tough first-round test against China’s Liu Xiaolong and Xu Chen.
Commonwealth Games and European silver medallist Kirsty Gilmour is sitting out the All England as she plots a careful route back following knee surgery, with an eye to the European Championships in April and the big event of the year, the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2017 in Glasgow’s Emirates Arena in August.
The Yonex All England Championships run from March 7-12.
