Kirsty Gilmour is through to today’s semi-finals of the women’s singles at the Yonex Canada Open in Calgary.
The Scotland star knocked out the only remaining seed in the competition when she defeated No. 2 Aya Ohori of Japan 21-14 21-15. That followed up her defeat of Korean seventh see Jang Mi Lee in the first round.
She has reached the last four without dropping a game and now faces Joo I Jeon of Korea while Saena Kawakami faces Sayaka Takahashi in an all Japanese contest.
A six-point surge from 10-9 helped Gilmour take the first game comfortably against Ohori. She bettered that in the second game by surging from 10-9 to 17-9 on the way to completing a 34-minute win.
Gilmour is now looking to maintain this form with just Canada this week and the Yonex US Open next week as vital preparation for the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2017 in Glasgow from August 21-27. But she already knows that a tough test awaits her in Anaheim as she faces India's second seed Saina Nehwal in the first round.
