There was success for Scotland’s next generation of stars over the weekend with players winning titles in Denmark and England.
Joshua Apiliga and Adam Pringle won gold in the boys’ doubles at the Under 17 Danish Junior Cup in Hvidovre while Katrina Chan and Brooke Stalker won girls’ doubles at the U13 Gold event in Lilleshall.
Top seeds Apiliga and Pringle came through their opening match against Norwegian pair Danila Gataulin and Ludvig Smith-Meyer without being troubled but from then onwards their path to the title was barred at every stage by Danish opposition.
The Scots battled through three-game matches against Joachim Anneberg and Nicolaj Wolf in the last-sixteen and Axel Henrik Parkhoi and Marcus Viscovich in the quarter-finals.
An easier 21-19 21-15 win over Oscar Sunekaer Bertelsen and Magnus Klingard put Apiliga and Pringle into the final where they secured the title by beating Oliver Orum-Petersen and Mads Vesergaard 21-18 21-18.
At the Lilleshall U13 event top seeds Chan and Stalker won the girls’ doubles courtesy of a 23-21 18-21 21-16 win in the final over second seeds Emily Chen and Grace Sachdeva.
Stalker had narrowly missed out on winning the Gold Star singles event, this time losing out in a three-game match in the final to Sachdeva 16-21 21-14 21-14, and she also reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles to win bronze.
Vibha Raman won the girls’ singles Gold event and Ishbel McCallister and Eva Tremble both reached the semi-finals to win bronze medals.
