Merkinch Primary School ready for some badminton fun

After Our Lady of Lourdes Primary school, the second primary school to receive a School Kit Bag from BADMINTONscotland is Merkinch Primary school in Inverness.

The kit bags are being distributed to schools all over Scotland who are situated in Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation areas and have attended the TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships 2017 or Scottish Open Grand Prix 2017.

These kit bags are a means for the schools, who may not have equipment, to deliver badminton in the school.

On Thursday 19th April they were given the kit bag along with a coaching session to show the teachers some ideas on how they can use it.

This bag will help with their after-school club which runs of Thursdays for the whole school.

Merkinch Primary School attended the Big Hit Festival during the Badminton World Championships at the Emirates Arena last August.

They made the monumental journey down to Glasgow - an over 340-mile round trip - to enjoy watching some of the world's biggest stars before playing some badminton of their own. An experience that the pupils could not have enjoyed without the dedication of their school teachers and staff - in particular Mr Mathie.

The Kit Bags contain everything that you would need to set up a club – shuttles, rackets and nets.

In future, there will be more schools who receive a School Kit bag to help improve the opportunities of children who may otherwise not get the chance to experience badminton.
