Christopher Grimley started the New Year well by winning his first senior singles title at the 2018 Babolat Dunfermline Championships.
He had to overcome spirited opposition from Ciar Pringle in the semi-final and brother Adam in the final where, in both matches he lost the first game but then wore down his opponents to win in three games.
Adam Hall had a double win with Alex Dunn in the men’s doubles, where they were just too strong for the Grimley twins, who were defending champions and in the mixed doubles with Ciara Torrance, where once again they overpowered youngsters Adam Pringle and Rachel Andrew.
The surprise winner of the women’s singles was Brittany Ashton. In the semi final she beat Caitlin Pringle in three games who had previously put out top seed Lauren Middleton. In the final, Brittany overcame second seed Basia Grodynska who had survived a marathon semi final against Rachel Cameron.
With only 6 entries in the women’s doubles, the event was played in two pools of three with Rebekka Findlay and Caitlin Pringle, winners of Pool A, defeating Lauren Middleton and Sarah Sidebottom, winners of Pool B, in a two game final.
For the first year ever, due to a smaller entry than usual, there were consolation events in all the knockout draws.
