TWO Scottish pairs reached the semi-finals to win bronze medals on the final day as the Junior Quadrangular under-15s tournament came to a close.
All eyes were on the girls’ doubles, with Scotland’s Sophie Ford and Mary Kong in action alongside compatriots Brooke Stalker and Keryn Swan.
Ford and Kong had enjoyed a bye in the first round, but fell at their first hurdle as they were narrowly defeated 23-21 21-18 by Irish pair Laura Corner and Julia O’Reilly.
Stalker and Swan fared better, reaching the semi-finals after a comfortable 21-4 21-10 victory over Aarthy Aravind and Saffron Morris of Wales.
But they were halted at the last four, as eventual winners Smrithi Shirol and Estelle Van Leeuwen put on a fine show to defeat them 21-8 21-11.
That set up an all-England final against Leona Lee and Tashvi Parab which Shirol and Van Leeuwen won 21-15 21-14.
In the boys’ doubles, Grant Lewis and Finlay Sheriff played Scott Guildea and Ben Lawlor in the quarter-finals, having received a bye for the first round.
They triumphed 21-13 21-17, setting up a semi-final against Dan McMillan and Joseph Scott of England.
A tense first game went all the way, eventually finishing 27-25 to McMillan and Scott, before the Englishmen claimed a 21-12 victory in the second to claim victory.
They met Matthew Chueng and Vincent Pontanossa of Ireland in the final eventually winning 19-21 21-19 21-18.
