Success at the Midland Junior U13/U17 Championships

U13 BD and GD events were played as round robin pools on Saturday afternoon. Deepti Vijayakumar & Qing Yang Xiao won all their matches to take the GD title, with Tushara Senthilrajaram &Pranavi Singh as runners-up.

The U13 BD proved to be the most hotly contested event of the weekend, with 3 pairs level on points after the round robin matches. Alfie Martin & Lewis Smith emerged as champions on countback, with Ben Ross & Lingyun Xiao runners-up  and Arnav Saraswat & Tushar Senthilrajaram in 3rd place.

Semi-Finals and Finals of all other events were held on Sunday, with BSCO umpires officiating. Angus Meldrum lived up to his No1 seeding in U17 BS, comfortably beating Matthew Waring in the final. The U17 GS saw rising young star Iona Muir, playing up an age group, upset the seeding to reach the final where she met her doubles partner Abbie Brooks. In a most exciting final Abbie proved to be just too strong, coming through to win a hard fought 3 set match.
Angus Meldrum & Abbie Brooks then teamed up to also lift the U17 Mixed title, beating Grant Lewis & Sophie Ford in the final.

In U17 BD, Grant Lewis & Finlay Sheriff took the honours, defeating Logan Ireland & Angus Meldrum in the final and at same time foiling Angus’s hopes of a treble.  Sophie Barrie & Katie Stewart deservedly won the U17 GD, in perhaps the biggest surprise of the weekend, by first overcoming No1 seeds Abbie Barrie & Iona Muir in the U17 GD Semi-Final , then following this up to beat No 2 seeds Katrina Chan & Ishbel McCallister in the final.

In the U13 events, Deepti Vijayakumar followed on from her U13 GD victory on Saturday to complete a treble success. She first overcame Pranavi Singh in the U13 GS final, then teamed up with Tushar Senthilrajaram in the U13 Mixed to defeat Lingyun Xiao & Qing Yang Xiao in a very close 3 set thriller.  Tushar Senthilrajaram earlier enjoyed success in the U13 BS, beating Lewis Smith in another exciting 3 set final.

The organisers would like to thank all players, parents, helpers, BSCO officials and NICC Staff for help with the smooth running of the event.
