FOURTEEN clubs from all over Scotland attended BADMINTONscotland’s latest Club Development Workshop on Saturday in Perth on day two of the Yonex Scottish National Championships.
The workshop focused on volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition through a three- hour session. There was also a presentation from one of our adult clubs, Glenearn Badminton Club, on recruiting new members and creating a welcoming environment.
Lyndsay Morrison, Coaching and Development Manager, said: “These Workshops are proving to be a great success and are open to club leaders and representatives from affiliated clubs all over the country.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for badminton club representatives to get together to share ideas, learn from other clubs, and use these tools to develop and grow badminton in their club.
“This latest workshop was delivered by sportscotland Educators and was aimed at sports club representatives who may have a role in the recruitment, support and development and recognition and reward of club volunteers.
“It covered key areas that are required to build a strong network of volunteers within a club environment, specifically committee members, as well as the abundance of helpers who sometimes do the small things that make the big difference.
“The importance of volunteers within the club environment can’t be underestimated. Without a workforce, it’s difficult to build capacity and grow memberships, or even function properly as a club.
“It also provided a great opportunity to share good practice with others and pick up new ideas.”
Clubs in attendance were Dundee Nomads, Perth Junior Badminton Club, Wing, Glenearn, Centre Badminton Club, Duns Badminton Club, Blairgowrie Badminton Club, Perth 20, City of Glasgow BC, Forgandenny Badminton Club, Western B C (Edinburgh), Westside, Fetteresso and Avondale. It would be great to see even more clubs attend our next event.
We will be updating the BADMINTONscotland website www.badmintonscotland.org.uk soon with details of forthcoming Workshops.
