BADMINTONscotland Chief Executive Anne Smillie returned from the TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup 2017 and BWF Council meeting in Australia with more exciting news in the countdown to Glasgow 2017.
Ms Smillie today confirmed that the next BWF Council meeting will be held during the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2017 at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena from August 21-27.
Delegates from all over the world will attend Council when Scotland’s Emma Mason will make her first appearance at Council following her election in Gold Coast last week when she was swiftly installed as Vice Chair of the Communications Committee.
As a bonus Scotland’s top player Kirsty Gilmour was one of three players elected to serve a four-year term on the BWF Athletes’ Commission along with Pusarla V. Sindhu of India and Germany’s Marc Zwiebler.
Ms Smillie said: “It is a great honour for us to be hosting the BWF Council meeting. It is just one more major event inked in for World Championship week along with the World Coaching Conference. It will certainly be a week when the badminton world focuses on our great city as the best players from all over the world come to Glasgow for the third time following our successes in 1997 and 2007."
BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said: “It will be a chance for the new Council members to get to know the workings of the BWF. We will be holding committee meetings from Wednesday and the full Council will meet on Saturday 26 August."
