In July, Badminton Scotland held a week-long summer camp for children at the Sir Craig Reedie Centre in Govan from Monday 17th till Friday 21st July.
The camp was run by Kaity Hall and Duncan Grant – World Championship Development Coordinators with the assistance of Euan Murray (Regional Development Officer for the West).
It was attended by children from the ages of 8 to 16 years old and from various clubs across Scotland.
The children who attended the camp learnt different technical and tactical skills which can be used in both Single and Doubles. This format went down well with the children:
“I enjoyed learning new moves and how to be a better badminton player.” Milo age 12
The camp wasn’t all serious as we included fun games throughout the week and a team event on the Friday.
“I enjoyed learning new shots and playing team games.” Susie aged 11
All the children enjoyed themselves and will hopefully go back to their clubs with the new skills and techniques they have learned.
BADMINTONscotland also ran an adult summer camp from Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd July.
Again, this was well attended of people all ages and abilities. The players all enjoyed themselves and got to decide what they wanted to learn as it was a relaxed session. On the last day we did a tournament in which all the games were very close and only a few points separated the top 4.
After the positive feedback and demand for a holiday camp we will be looking to put on in October Holidays so watch the website for more details.
