Once again due to popular demand we are offering a series of activities during the Scottish Open including Big Hit Festivals, N4/5/Higher sessions and much more.
Please note that to access these opportunities you must affiliate for Season 2019/20 (click here for more info).
Below is further information on the opportunities available during the Scottish Open:
PRIMARY SCHOOLS: Big Hit Festival (4-hour package)
We are offering places on out Big Hit festivals on Thursday and Friday of the Scottish Open. There are two sessions available – 10:00-12:00 (spectate 12:30-14:30) or 12:30-14:30 (spectate 10:00-12:00). Along with the festival itself we will be running free teacher CLPL running parallel with the festivals and access to the main event for up to two hours before or after your festivals. SECONDARY SCHOOLS: N4/5/Higher Sessions
Once again we are offering our Nat 4/5 Higher practical session for Secondary pupils. The session focuses on developing the training cycle and progressions from simple practices to more complex combination drills as well as the factors that enable good practice. This is a practical based session for the pupils, however we look to engage the teachers as much as possible through observation and discussion. This is a free session to sign up for and includes the chance to spectate both before and after the session. The session runs Thursday and Friday from 14:45-16:30. To book click here.
ALL SCHOOLS: Free Schools Spectating Tickets
Our free spectating places are available to both Primary and Secondary schools and are free to access for the Thursday and Friday of the event. Play starts at 10am every day running on into the evening and so you can come and stay as long as you wish on this ticket. Secondary schools can also access match analysis sheets if they wish at the start of their session. To book click here.
Drop in2 Badminton Festival (Community Session) [Thursday 21st November, 16.30-17.30]
The Drop in2 Festival is delivered in conjunction with Active East with aim of providing local groups the opportunity to play badminton with in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and spectate in the Main Arena!
Active East is an exciting programme which aims to create a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games for young people in the East of Glasgow by increasing levels of physical activity and building skills through volunteering.

Smash in2 Badminton Festival (Adult Matchplay) (Thursday 21st November, 18.30-21.30)
An opportunity for adults to take part in some friendly doubles competition within the 9 court Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
No partner is required for entry, with players playing games with a mixture of partners from each pool. The event is played on a round robin basis and every entrant will get to play several games. Feather shuttles will be provided. Players can highlight their current standard on entry form and the organisers will place the players appropriately in groups using this information as a guide:
- Beginner (no previous experience of competition)
- Regular Pay & Play Player
- Regular Club/Competition Player
Tickets are available to anyone aged 16+. The event begins at 18:30 and will last until 21:30. This will involve playing doubles matches with a chance for you to play people from across Scotland.
The Tickets are FREE for Affiliated Club Members, £5 for Smash in2 Members and £10 per person for those who are not affiliated. The package includes your 3-hour session and access into the main event. We only have 60 places available for this event so snap up your tickets fast to ensure you can get a place in this exciting experience.
Players will have the opportunity to win 2 racquets. One can be won just by entering this competition with all payers being placed into a prize draw and the other racquet will be awarded to the winner as well as receiving two invitations to hospitality for both the Saturday and Sunday of the championships

COLLEGE & UNIVERSITIES
Student Badminton Forum (Friday 22nd November, 16.00-18.00)
Come along to the first student badminton forum, delivered in partnership with Scottish Student Sport (SSS), hear about our key programmes and have an opportunity to input into the ways in which Badminton Scotland and Scottish Student Sport support student badminton.
Tickets are free and tea and coffee will be provided. Participants will also receive free tickets to watch the Scottish Open action on court from the VIP area. Two tickets for the forum and Scottish Open will be allocated per student badminton establishment.

National Club League (NCL) [Pilot] (Friday 22nd November, 18.00-21.00)
Your chance to play on centre stage!
A unique opportunity for clubs to take part in a club versus club competition in the 9 court Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. This competition will take place on Friday 22nd November from 6pm-9pm.
The finalists will have a sensational opportunity of playing in front of the crowd in the main arena. The final will take place on Saturday 23rd November between the quarter and semi-final stage of the Scottish Open. Following this both finalists will be given an invitation to hospitality on the Saturday and the winning club will receive a framed top signed by world number 1 Kento Momota.
This competition is available to any club affiliated to BadmintonScotland and requires 6 players per team. This will be a mixed gender competition with 3 doubles rubbers per team match.
Furthermore, BadmintonScotland is looking to launch a National Club League competition in January 2020, therefore this event will provide an opportunity for club representatives to be hosted in hospitality after the event and discuss ideas and opinions on what they think the future of national club badminton should look like.
The cost of this event will be £20 per team, however there are only 12 spaces up for grabs, so snap up your place fast to ensure your club gets a place in this exciting and unique experience!

National Coaching Conference (Saturday 23rd November, 10.00-13.00)
Come and join us on Saturday the 23rd of November for our annual National Coaching Conference, led by Badminton Scotland Head Coach Ingo Kindervater!
Ingo will lead us through the new philosophy, values and vision for Badminton coaching in Scotland with a mixture of theory and on court action. More information to follow. Book now!
The National Coaching Conference will run from 10.00am until 1.00pm with Scottish Open Grand Prix tickets, a goody bag and a conference pack included in the ticket price.

Pathway Coaching Clinic (Saturday 23rd November, 14.00-15.00)
The Second Pathway Club workshop for season 2019/20 is now open for bookings. The session will follow on from the National Coaching Conference at the Scottish Open. Details are below:

The coaching clinic will be a great opportunity to ask National Head Coach Ingo Kindervarter any specific questions you have on coaching/coaching philosophy to support you with your work within your own club. The session will run as a drop in, so coaches can stay for the full hour, or drop in throughout the hour. Pathway Coaches from the same club would be expected to attend together.

Club Hit Festival (Sunday 24th November, 10.00am-12.00pm)
We are again offering places at the 2019 Scottish Open Club Hit Festival. These festivals are open to all junior players aged 8 to 17 years old. During this event, some of our top Scottish National Squad members will be there to give advice and players will have the opportunity to play against the pros! Players will be placed into groups of various levels:
Beginners (Shuttling Skills) - Fairly new to the game as long as players can hold a rally and can serve. The player has been playing 1-2 years or between ages 8-10.
Intermediate (Learning to Play & Practice) - The player has built on their skills and is the next level from beginner. The player is competent on performing various shots and has been playing 2-3 years or between ages 11-14.
Badminton Scotland staff and coaches will be delivering the Beginners and Intermediate sessions which will have a mixture of practices and fun games to improve and test the players skills.
Advanced (Progressing to Play & Practice) - The player is a member of a Pathway Club or Performance Development Squad.
This session will be delivered by former International player Bruce Flockhart. Bruce is a former top 30 men’s singles player and 8 time Scottish National Champion, Bruce has also competed at 3 Commonwealth Games and winning a Bronze medal in the 2002 games.

This is so the attendee’s get the opportunity to test their skills and have fun with players from different areas of Scotland. The participants will also receive day tickets to the Scottish Open which will provide the opportunity to watch world class badminton.
The Club Hit Festival on the Sunday costs just £2 per player for those who are Affiliated Members; £4 for Smash in2 Members and for Non-Members it is £8 per player which includes spectator tickets for the Finals. This is a limited time offer. Be sure to get your places before they all go!!!
