UNICEF net a bucket-load

BADMINTONscotland are delighted to announce that, thanks to the money raised in the build-up and duration of the 10th Sudirman Cup World Team Badminton Championships in Glasgow earlier this month, the total raised for UNICEF, the leading children’s organisation, is currently standing at approximately £5,000.

One child in Africa dies every 30 seconds from malaria, and the hope is that BADMINTONscotland’s efforts can help turn badminton nets into mosquito nets, metaphorically speaking of course, and help save a quarter of a million lives each year in Africa.

TV boost for World Champs

THE 10th World Team Badminton Championships at Scotstoun International Sports Arena in Glasgow proved a huge success, with major television markets across three continents witnessing China's sixth Sudirman Cup triumph as the week-long tournament came to a rousing climax on Sunday 17 June.

The finals were screened live in the United Kingdom, Russia, China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Denmark, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand while the United States and Japan were among others who enjoyed delayed screening.

BADMINTONscotland would like to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of volunteers who devoted their time and effort into the smooth-running of the 10th Sudirman Cup, staged in Glasgow earlier this month.

Some 500 helpers were crucial to the success of the tournament, and be you a line-judge, member of the catering staff, multi-lingual translator, driver, hostess or involved in any number of other responsibilities, BADMINTONscotland would like to stress how vital your role was in making the championships one of the most impressive sporting events ever staged in Scotland .
