Good start for Grimley at Youth Olympic Games

Christopher Grimley’s Youth Olympic Games campaign got off to a good start on Sunday.

He opened his singles campaign with an excellent 21-8 21-14 win over New Zealand’s Oscan Guo but he was unable to make it two wins in a row on Monday against Shiaucheng Chen.

It was always going to be tough to beat Chinese Taipei’s eighth seed and Chen won the tie 21-15 21-13 to take control of group G.

Grimley will play Balazs Papai of Hungary in his final group match at 14.05hrs local time today and while a win would guarantee second place in the group he is unlikely to progress to the knock-out stages with Chen in a dominant position to win the group.

In the Team Relay event on Sunday Grimley won his boys’ doubles and mixed doubles matches with Nhat Nguyen and Yue Yann Jaslyn Hool respectively, but it wasn’t enough to inspire his Team Zeta to victory, as Team Delta beat them 110-95.

On Monday Grimley once again won both matches – singles and boys’ doubles this time – as Team Zeta sealed a 110-89 victory over Team Epsilon.
