Coach Education

Disability Workshop – This workshop is designed to build on knowledge gained through the Level 1 / 2 coach awards and previous coaching experience. It will also show that coaching disabled people challenges us in the same way as all other types of coaching and that by using common sense and sound ‘good coaching practice’ as learned in Level 1 and 2, coaches will have all the tools necessary to work successfully in this field.

Technical Officials

Technical Officials are central to controlling the game of badminton on-court and ensuring fair match play which follows the Laws of Badminton and the various competition regulations. Disability badminton also requires technical support to ensure we can manage and further develop our calendar of events, and we would encourage anyone who is interested in becoming either an umpire or linejudge to get in touch. Whether individually to become an Umpire or assist in scoring, or as a club wishing to undertake the very enjoyable and educational linejudges course, please contact Jane Russell Badminton Scotland Disability Lead at jane@badmintonscotland.org.uk.

Badminton Scotland Disability Working Group

In May 2013 the Scottish Disability Badminton Group became fully integrated with Badminton Scotland and became known as Badminton Scotland Disability Working Group.

The group is made up of representatives from Badminton Scotland, Scottish Disability Sport and volunteers from inclusive clubs. The BSDWG and Badminton Scotland Regional Development Officers’ aims are to encourage clubs to become inclusive, increase participation and continue to run successful 4 Nations events. Further events at regional level are expected as well as more coaching & volunteering opportunities.

The BSDWG Development Plan can be found here.

Shuttlemark Inclusive Disability Charter (SIDC)

As more clubs open and more coaches are trained, the new SIDC will increase the accessibility and inclusivity of such opportunities, encouraging growing numbers of people to get involved.

Clubs who are interested in the scheme can apply if they are Shuttlemark Bronze, Silver or Gold accredited, and they fulfil a set criteria to become a SIDC club, with support available to clubs from their Regional Development Officer.

Once accredited, clubs will have access to a series of rewards, including training and Continuous Professional Development (CPD), working alongside partners such as Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) to maximise best practice in disability badminton in Scotland.
