Grimley going strong in team event in Buenos Aires

Christopher Grimley finished off his individual Youth Olympic Games in style, beating Hungarian Balazs Papai 21-17 21-12 to finish second in group G.

But with only the top player in each group, that brought Grimley’s participation in the individual events to an end as eighth seed Shiaucheng Chen topped the group to progress to the quarter-finals.

In the mixed team relay event on Tuesday, Grimley’s Zeta team lost a close tussle with team Alpha, going down 110-103 but they progressed to the quarter-final thanks to wins in previous days.

In the quarters Grimley won his boys’ and mixed doubles matches to help team Zeta beat team Sigma 110-106 to set up a semi-final against team Omega this evening.

Meanwhile a difficult day in Holland saw Scottish interest end at the Yonex Dutch Open in Almere.

Adam Hall and Julie MacPherson lost to Niclas Nohr and Sara Thygesen.

The Scots won the first game and held match points in the second, but ultimately the Danish second seeds won 20-22 23-21 21-15.

Hall returned to the court later in the day with Alex Dunn in the men’s doubles, once again losing out in three games to German fourth seeds Jones Ralfy Jansen and Josch Zurwonne 21-13 17-21 21-16.
