Over and out after a battling performance for Dunn and Hall

Alex Dunn and Adam Hall are out of the TOTAL BWF World Championships after losing to Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, despite a battling performance in Basel.

Following their superb first-round win against Thailand’s Bodin Isara and Maneepong Jongit (ranked 35 places above the Scots), Alex Dunn and Adam Hall, then received a bye, taking them into the 3rd round in the TOTAL BWF World Championships Men’s Doubles event; and earlier today, this brought them head to head with Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, a long-established pair, who are currently ranked 2nd in the world, and seeded fourth in this year’s Championships.

The match was always going to be challenging for Dunn and Hall, but they got off to a good start, going into the interval in the first set, 11-9 up; however, the Indonesians fought back, and despite an outstanding effort by the Scots, they narrowly missed out on a first set win, losing 19-21.

In the second set, the Indonesians took a quick lead, but after a brave effort from Dunn and Hall, they were narrowly ahead at the interval.  However, following the break, the experience of Ahsan/Setiawan showed as they regained control of the set, providing them with a comfortable 21-16 win, and taking them into the Quarter Finals.

The Scots should be proud of their performance, against one of the world’s top Men’s Doubles pairings, and there is no doubt of their enormous potential for the future.
