Fantastic Four qualify for World Championships

Four players have qualified to represent Scotland at the TOTAL BWF World Championships this summer in Basel.

Kirsty Gilmour, Julie MacPherson, Alex Dunn and Adam Hall will make the trip to Switzerland from 19-25 August, representing Scotland in three out of the five events.

Adam Hall and Julie MacPherson team up in the mixed doubles in what will be a second World Championships for both players. Hall played men’s doubles last year in China while MacPherson played women’s and mixed doubles at the Glasgow 2017 World Championships.

Hall will also compete in the men’s doubles in Basel, once again partnering Dunn and they will be aiming to recapture the form which saw them beat Chinese Taipei’s former top 10 pairing Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in last year’s first round.

Gilmour is the most experienced of the four Scots and will be aiming to recapture the form which propelled her to the quarter-finals of the Glasgow 2017 event, where she came within a couple of points of reaching the semi-finals and securing a bronze medal.

But before that Gilmour will compete at the second edition of the European Games, being held in Minsk from 24-30 June.

Gilmour is representing Team GB in Minsk and will play women’s singles. She is third seed and faces Norwegian Elisa Wiborg, Lithuania’s Vytaute Fomkinaite and Marie Batomene of France in Group C.

The draw for the World Championships will be made by BWF on 5 August.
