Scotland beat Police Sport UK

Scotland Select arrested the winning streak of the Police Sport UK Team on Wednesday night as they won their annual encounter with the finest the law has to offer for the first time since 2016.

A youthful team ran out 7 – 4 winners overall, taking a clean sweep of the singles matches as well as winning both women’s doubles and one mixed doubles.

Callum Smith and Michael McGuire beat former Scottish internationalists Gordon Thomson and Graeme Smith respectively.

McGuire won a tight first set 24-22 before a more convincing 21-14 scoreline in the second, while Smith beat 2-time former Scottish National champion Thomson 21-14 16-21 21-19.

Rachel Cameron beat Katie King 21-6 21-9 in the first women’s singles while Lindsey Ireland won her match against Paula Wilson 21-15 21-9.

The Police won both men’s doubles matches. Smith and Thomson teamed up to gain revenge on Callum Smith and his partner Calum Flockhart, beating the youngsters 21-19 18-21 21-19 and Tony Stephenson and Oliver Morris were too strong for Alastair Campbell and Kenneth Cheung, winning 17-21 21-16 21-16.

In the women’s doubles Cameron and Ireland beat King and Beki Hutt 21-19 21-6 and Jodie Black and Eilidh McCallister beat Wilson and Jill Smith 21-17 21-18.

Campbell and Lauren Page won the first mixed doubles tie for Scotland, beating Morris and Smith 13-21 21-17 21-15.

But Smith and Hutt won 21-16 21-9 over McGuire and McCallister while Morris and Wilson beat Flockhart and Erin Waddell 21-11 15-21 21-16 to round off the tie.
