Hall and MacPherson reach Danish quarter-finals while Leslie and Oliver do likewise in Canada

Adam Hall and Julie MacPherson reached the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the Li Ning Denmark Challenge over the weekend.

The Scots opened their campaign with a hard-fought 25-23 21-15 win over Denmark’s Sebastian Bugtrup and Ditte Soby before a more straightforward 21-15 21-12 win over another Danish pair – Emil Lauritzen and Iben Bergstein put them through to the last eight.

But a clash against English top seeds Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh proved to be a step too far when the Scots lost 21-15 21-19.

Hall was also in men’s doubles action with Alex Dunn where he again won a hard-fought opening round win, this time in three sets, over more Danish opposition.

This time it was Daniel Lundgaard and Mathias Thyrri, who were despatched 21-17 17-21 21-12 but Hall and Dunn couldn’t match India’s second seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the next round, going out 21-18 21-16.

Meanwhile four Scots were in action in the Yonex Canada Para-Badminton International with the pick of the results coming from Alan Oliver and Colin Leslie in the SL3-SL4 men’s doubles.

The Scots scored wins over Geoffrey Byzery and Pascal Lapointe as well as Dong Jae Joo and Antti Kaerki to qualify for the knockout stages.

But their campaign was ended after a 21-9 26-24 loss to India’s Tarun Tarun and Frenchman Mathieu Thomas.
