Gilmour out of Worlds

Posted on 19th August 2019

Kirsty Gilmour is out of the TOTAL BWF World Championships.

Despite going into the Worlds in top form, and with the confidence gained as a result of some recent excellent results, European Silver medallist, Kirsty Gilmour, was unable to convert her recent successes into a win against Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi in today’s first round of the TOTAL BWF World Championships.

The Scot was originally due to play Switzerland’s Sabrina Jaquet in Round 1; but following a re-draw, came up against Takahashi, who, with a world ranking of 15, is seven places ahead of Gilmour’s WR22.

A disappointed Gilmour struggled to find her feet in a contest that was always going to be difficult, eventually losing out to Takahashi 10-21; 13-21.

Scotland’s hopes now remain with Alex Dunn/Adam Hall who are scheduled to play Thailand’s  Bodin Isara/Maneepong Jongjit from Thailand, at approximately 1700 GMT today.
