Badminton Scotland appoint three new directors

Badminton Scotland is pleased to announce the appointment of three new directors; two Independent Board Directors and a new Chair of the Engagement Committee.

Bill Blacoe and Paul Morgan took up their roles as Independent Board Directors following the Half Yearly Meeting on the 21st November 2021, during which John Craig was also elected as Chair of the Engagement Committee.

Bill has a strong background in finance and a keen interest in badminton whilst Paul’s background is in digital transformation and organisation development and he is a keen tennis player.

Both directors are bringing a wealth of experience to the board and their input will be invaluable to Badminton Scotland as the organisation focuses on the ongoing development of our sport post-covid.

On his appointment, Bill said “with badminton being a huge part of my life growing up, I see this as a great opportunity to give something back, and hopefully my background in finance and business management can be of assistance.  This is especially the case with my children now showing a keen interest in taking up the sport, and I’d love them to have the great experience that I had.”

Paul added: “I feel very privileged to be given this opportunity to join the Board of Badminton Scotland and look forward to bringing my experience, passion and impact to this incredible sport”

Following Jill O’Neil’s resignation from the Engagement Committee, John was elected by the Council, to take over as Director and engagement committee chair. Professionally John has a strong background in IT and project management, and has served his badminton apprenticeship running Scotstoun Junior Badminton Club and volunteering with Glasgow & North Strathclyde Group. As Director, his committee covers engagement with the players, clubs, coaches, officials and volunteers.

John says “I was delighted to receive strong-support from the Badminton Scotland Council to carry-out this role on the board, there is a lot to be done. I am happy to listen to ideas and welcome help from the Scottish badminton community”

Frank Turnbull, president and interim Chair of Badminton Scotland, welcomed the appointment of all three new members of the Board: “In my new role I’m really looking forward to working with the new members of the board. It’s an exciting time of the sport and I’m sure they’ll bring new energy and ideas to our future priorities.”
