Badminton is the second biggest participation sport in the world, and we already have well over 150,000 people regularly participating in Scotland. With a global fan base of 735 million the sport enjoys significant global exposure, and we want to raise awareness of this and support in Scotland. Our vision is to make Badminton the biggest participation sport in Scotland.

We are currently focused on increasing our active membership by supporting the development of our clubs and creating a stronger connection to recreational participants and non-competitive players.

Badminton is a very accessible and inclusive sport with strong female participation, engagement within minority ethnic groups, and is played in every community across the whole of Scotland. We have the strongest group of performance athletes that we have ever had with 7 players in the world top 30 or above in their disciplines and were recently placed 5th in Europe.

With this strong base we are in a good position to grow membership and the connection with recreational players.

Badminton is already a very inclusive sport played by all communities across Scotland. We are committed to EDI, and we recognise that we need to continue to do more to ensure that as a sport we are recognised for this, and it becomes an underpinning characteristic across the whole sport. The Chair will play a central part to ensure that we deliver on this as an organisation and a sport.
