Big win for Hall and MacPherson but Scotland’s interest at World Juniors ends

Adam Hall and Julie MacPherson scored an outstanding win at the Yonex Dutch Open mixed doubles.

The Scots won 21-19 21-19 against Russian fifth seeds Rodion Alimov and Alina Daveltova to set up a second round clash with China’s Dong Wei Jie and Chen Xiao Fei later today (Thursday).

But Hall couldn’t replicate that success in the men’s doubles with Alex Dunn, losing out 21-18 21-12 to Germany’s Jones Ralfy Jansen and Peter Kaesbauer.

And Kirsty Gilmour suffered a shock first round loss in the women’s singles, going out 21-19 21-17 to Frenchwoman Marie Batomene.

Meanwhile Scottish interest came to an end at the World Junior Championships in Russia.

Joshua Apiliga and Adam Pringle lost to Thai ninth seeds Tanadon Punpanich and Sirawit Sothon 21-11 21-17 before Michael McGuire and Callum Smith lost to 15th seeds Rasmus Espersen and Marcus Rindshoj of Denmark.
