Dundee Area Badminton: Doubles League Round Up

The matches keep coming thick and fast in the Gents and ladies double leagues.

In the ladies league, despite it being so early in the season, newcomers Nomads look strong favourites for the title as they followed up their opening day 6-0 win over champions NCR with a 5-0 win over last season’s 2nd placed side Monifieth Grove. Lauren Corbett and Meghan Walker starred with 3 wins apiece, with Lauren currently topping the rankings

NCR bounced back from their opening defeat with a 4-0 win v David Lloyd, although the match wasn’t decided until the final round of games.

NCR Gents have started very well in Division 1 and currently share the League leadership with champions Nomads following a 5-0 win over Roseangle. Robert Adamson and Josh Lowe were in cracking form for the Cash with 3 wins each.

In Gents Division 2, Monifieth Grove had no one available from their nominated players and team problems were worsened by a late call off meaning that they had to play with 3 players. Despite that they put in a good effort in only going down 4-2 to Nomads 2. Matthew Duvcan and Simon Krols had the decisive win with a 21-16, 21-8 victory in the opening game.

In Gents Division 3, the three Monifieth Grove players who were deputising for the first team, were back in action straight after in an exciting contest, with the Firies clinching a 4-2 victory with two wins in the final round of games. Brian Corbett and Kyle Bailey were on form for the Firies with 3 wins each, as they made it two wins from two.

Forfar 2 are another team with a 100% record after 2 matches following a 4-1 win v David Lloyd, although this was yet another match that went to the final round of games before being decided.

Just one match again in the mixed leagues and David Lloyd moved to the top of Division 2 with a convincing 8-0 win v Dundee University 3. Claire Crowe, Ayden Greensmith, Jordan Stewart and Craig Myles all had 3 wins for the victors.
