Dundee Area Badminton: Doubles League Round Up

By Gordon Smith

Last weekend there was another round of fixtures in the ladies and gents doubles league with some exciting matches.

It promises to be an exciting season in the ladies league and there was something of a shock as champions NCR went down 6-0 to what to be fair was a very strong Nomads side who were making their debut in this event.

In Gents Division 1 Kirriemuir bounced back from an opening day defeat with an excellent 4-0 win v Carnoustie. Lachlan Mulford starred for Kirrie in this one with 3 wins.

Reigning Champions Nomads opened their campaign with a 4-1 win v Roseangle. Debutant Simon Krols was on top form for Nomads with 3 wins in this one.

In Division 2, there were a couple of close affairs. Monifieth Grove got off to a winning start with a 3-1 victory v Lunchtime Badminton. This went down to the final game with Gordon Smith and Scott Adamson clinching victory with a 21-18, 21-17 win.

Newly promoted NCR 2 also started strongly with a 2-0 win v Nomads 2. This was another one that went down to the wire, with Craig Wallace and Bob Farrer clinching victory in an exciting final game 21-17, 26-24.

In the 3rd Division the Fries were on fire with a 3-1 win v Dundee University. This one went to the penultimate game with Brian Corbett and Kyle Bailey clinching it with a 21-15, 21-15 win.

In the only mixed league match Monifieth Grove maintained their early lead at the top of the table with a 6-2 win v Dundee University 3. Ellen Watson and Kerry Smith maintained their 100% records with 3 wins each, but both teams deserve credit for braving the elements on Friday night during the storm.
