Dundee Area Badminton: January Round Up

By Gordon Smith

Report for w/e 15 January 2024

There was the very welcome return of the Handicap Cup, which kicked off with an intriguing tie between 1st Division NCR and 2nd Division Monifieth Grove. It promised to be a tight affair and so it proved.

The opening round of games saw nothing separating the sides as all 3 games were drawn and it was into game 5 before the first victory as NCR took a slender 1-0 lead into the final round of games.

Game 8 was pivitol as Robert Adamson and Emma Defew gained a 21-7, 21-13 win for what in the end was a narrow 2-1 victory. Credit to both sides in a match that could have went either way, but it’s the Cash that march on to the quarter final after a tie where the handicapping worked well.

In the T Duncan & Co Mixed league Division 2, the league leadership changed again as Carnoustie Panbride moved back to the top of the table with a 6-0 win v David Lloyd. Carnoustie won all 4 level doubles with a couple of victories in the mixed sealing victory.

Donnie Smith and Maria Boyd were in cracking form for Carnoustie with 3 wins each, with Donnie and Maria both currently topping the Divisional rankings.

David Lloyd bounced back with a convincing 9-0 win v Dundee University 3 and are only 3 points behind the leaders in 3rd place. The 3 wins for Christie Laird and Jordan Stewart move them up to 2nd place in the rankings.

Some great action pics from the cup match between Monifieth Grove and NCR.
