Dundee Area Badminton: Round Up

It’s still neck and neck at the top of the exciting T Duncan & Co Ladies doubles league. Nomads remain top after a hard fought 3-1 win v David Lloyd. It was level pegging after the first round of games, but 2 wins for Nomads in the next round paved the way for a victory with a coupe of draws to close things off.

Carnoustie are only behind on games difference although they have played a game more. They were involved in an even closer affair in the seaside derby v Monifieth Grove. This one came down to a final game decider with Maria Boyd and Alison Mckenzie clinching a 3-2 victory with a 21-17, 21-13 win. Maria was in cracking form for Carnoustie and her 3 wins took her to the top of the rankings.

In Gents league Division 1 there is a scramble to avoid the drop with only a point separating the bottom 3. Roseangle moved off the bottom at the expense of opponents David Lloyd with and excellent 5-1 win. Ex David Lloyd players Haseeb Kayani and Adnan Haider came back to haunt their former club with 3 wins each.

In Division 2, Kirriemuir 2 are looking good for the runners up spot, moving 4 points clear of 3rd placed Monifieth Grove with a 3-1 win v Nomads 2. This was another match not decided until the final game however with a close fought 21-18, 21-17 win by Ross Miller and Derek Thompson sealing the victory.

In another close affair Monifieth Grove 2 got their first Gents Division 3 win defeating David Lloyd 2 3-2. Yet another one that went to the wire on an exciting day of Badminton with a 21-9, 21-11 win by Karampal Sidhu and debutant Mike Ramsay sealing the win, which lifts the Grove off the foot of the table.

It’s looking good for the Firies though and a concession by Carnoustie 2 has them in touching distance of the title.

In the Handicap Cup, Nomads moved into the semi final with a 5-2 win over NCR. Nomads were 4-0 up early on before there was a bit of a fightback by the Cash, but a 21-7, 21-9 win by Lauren Corbett and Bill Hogg in game 7 secured the semi slot.

In the mixed league Division 2 Dundee University 3 and St Andrews University completed their season with a varsity derby and it was Dundee who triumphed with a convincing 7-1 win. Sandesh and Andrei were the top players for the victors with 3 wins each.
