Dundee Area Badminton round up – Wins all around!

There was an exciting T Duncan & Co Handicap Cup semi final as First Division champions Nomads took on 2nd Division champions Carnoustie.  Carnoustie were without star performer Maria Boyd, but apart from that the team were on their usual lines, whilst Nomads were able to field First Division Players of the Year Lauren Corbett and Bill Hogg in a strong line up.  It was tight early on with Nomads having a slender 2-1 lead at the half way stage, but 3 wins in a row for Nomads proved pivotal with a 21-11, 21-16 win in Game 7 by Lauren and Bill securing their place in the final, as they made it 3 wins on the evening.  Nomads now play another 2nd Division side David Lloyd in the final.

In the Gents league Division 1, Kirriemuir secured a 3rd placed finish with a 6-0 win over David Lloyd, whose fulfilment of the fixture was enough to send Carnoustie down to Division 2.

In Division 2, NCR 2 had an excellent 4-0 victory over Monifieth Grove, with a couple of wins in the final round of games securing victory.   In a tight league with only one match remaining, NCR 2 can finish anywhere from 3rd to 6th depending on their result against Nomads 2.

In Division 3, Dundee University have hit form late on in the season and moved into 3rd with a 6-0 win over David Lloyd who suffered a late call off and were one short.

In ladies Division 2, NCR got revenge for an earlier defeat by Monifieth Grove with a 4-2 win.  This was tight early on with 2 wins each in the opening 2 round of games, but 2 victories for the Cash sealed it at the end, although this will not be quite enough for them to retain their title if Nomads fulfil their final match.

David Lloyd ladies moved into 3rd with a convincing 6-0 win v Dundee University.
