Gilmour wins again but Grimleys bow out

Kirsty Gilmour is through to the quarter-finals of the women’s singles at the European Championships.

Gilmour shrugged off the challenge of Bulgaria’s Linda Zetchiri, winning 21-8 21-9 in just 28 minutes to set up a showdown against eighth seed Lianne Tan.

It will be the sixth time Gilmour has faced the Belgian and she starts as favourite to reach the semi-finals, having beaten Tan in all five of their previous encounters.

In the men’s doubles Chris and Matt Grimley showed some of their undoubted potential against fifth seeds Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel.

At 12-6 up in the second set having won the first 21-16 the Scots looked like they might cause an upset but the Germans fought back.

They won the second before taking control early in the third to run out 16-21 21-16 21-14 winners.
