Glenearn Badminton Club host Badminton Taster Session for Festival Fortnight

Festival Fortnight is Scotland’s annual LGBTIQ+ sports festival. The festival takes place between 17th – 30th June and provides something for everyone, featuring a combination of sporting, cultural, academic, social and recreational events.

Festival Fortnight takes place annually, and aims to increase the participation and visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) people in Scottish sport, and provides opportunities to raise awareness of LGBTIQ+ and wider equality, inclusion, and human rights issues within the world of sport and physical activity – making today’s event a great fit!

Glenearn Badminton Club hosted a Badminton taster session on Saturday 26/06/2021 at the Perth College Sport Campus in partnership with Badminton Scotland.

Jane Russell (Badminton Scotland Regional Development Officer – Tayside and Fife) said “We want to make badminton even more inclusive than it already is so I’m looking forward to working with Glenearn and Leap Sport to make sure that everybody in the community gets the opportunity to play badminton.”

Frazer Robertson (Club President of  Perth Parrots and Glenearn Badminton) said “Festival Fortnight offers a fantastic platform for sports clubs to host events which help highlight their welcoming and inclusive culture while encouraging new members from the LGBTIQ+ to join and benefit from the positive physical and mental health aspects associated with sport. Both the Perth Parrots and Glenearn Badminton were delighted to support the festival again this year and hope to have some new members join our two clubs. Sport has been significantly effected by the understandable restrictions relating to COVID-19 over the last year and Festival Fortnight was a welcomed opportunity to encourage individuals to reengage in sport as restrictions lift.”
