Highland Bonanza Double Delight for MacCulloch, Hunter & McGuire

On Friday 7th and Saturday 8th December 2018 Black Isle Leisure Centre Hosted the second Highland Restricted Bonanza.  Players travelled from Inverness, Nairn, Dingwall, Moray, Kinloss, Lochcarron, Gairloch, Tain & Barra.

Entry was lower than expected overall but we managed to get some of our juniors (10-12 years) to come along on Saturday to play round robin singles games and be part of the event along with watching some adult players games’ to show them what can be achieved.

Friday 7 Dec – Singles Results

The singles event started with competitive three pools of three, with four players proceeding to the semi final stages and the rest to the consolation stages.

Ian Campbell from Inverness came out winning the singles title against fierce competition John MacCulloch of Culbokie, with third place going to Mark Sproule from Inverness Royal S12B.

On the other two courts there was also a round robin final social singles with an entry of five players battling for the title.

Paul McQuire from Barra came out as winner of the group with Richard Norris from RAF Lossiemouth second, closely followed by Scott Smith from Tain.

This was Pauls first social title of the weekend coming back for more play on the Saturday.

 

Saturday 8 Dec – Mixed Doubles Results

The Saturday started with mixed doubles events.  There was a round robin final of five pairs working hard to win their games.

In the end, from an epic final, John MacCulloch & Susan Hunter (Milton of Leys) managed to secure the win over Ian Campbell & Joan Columbine (Milton of Leys).  This was the start of John and Susan’s winning streak – their first title of the day with more to come.

The social title went to Paul McGuire and Joanna MacLean (Barra) – this made it double delight for Paul.

 

Doubles Results

Starting midday saw a round robin final of four pairs competing hard.

The final saw John MacCulloch & Rob Broughton secure a good win over Ian Campbell & George Paterson.  This made it Johns second title of the weekend.  Third place went to Michael McLellan and Mark Sproule from Inverness Royal SI2B.

In the social there was a round robin final of five pairs with strong performances from all players.

Graham Cummings (Dingwall) & Alastair Murray came out winning all games in straight sets.  Father and son acts Eoin Cumming & Iain Cumming (Garloch) teamed up to win second place with Jim & Matthew Goodman securing third place.

In the ladies’ doubles three pairs battled it out for the title.  Susan Hunter & Joan Columbine secured a comfortable win over Eleanor and Cara Strath, which made it Susan’s second title of the weekend.

Please note that we are at risk of not been able to run this particular event due to low intake, but HBG will continue to try and give competitive opportunities in the Highlands to ensure players have the choice.
