Kickstart – the Governments Kickstart scheme helps unemployed young people, aged 16-24, to secure quality 6-month placements for 25 hours a week. Badminton Scotland – is the governing body for the sport in Scotland, based at 40 Bogmoor Place, Glasgow, G51 4TQ. Its role is to develop participation, memberships and performance, and accelerate the growth of the sport across the country.

Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Performance administration team to support us with essential admin processes which help our department run smoothly.

Day to day you will:

  • Assist Badminton Scotland’s Head Coach and wider team with administrative tasks relating to departmental objectives and tasks.
  • Work alongside a progressive team who work to develop the sport across Scotland
  • Learn important administrative skills related to planning and management of teams and events
  • Assist performance staff with co-ordinating junior and senior squad athletes and teams
  • Co-ordinate facility booking for junior teams
  • Communicate with external coaches for teams training
  • Maintain team costs registers
  • Communicate with team members to facilitate training timetables

The core hours of the position are 25 per week, being 5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, although there is some flexibility to adjust hours to suit. Badminton Scotland offer a blended working environment, meaning that although the role is office based there is the opportunity to work from home for part of the week. The schedule of office/home working will be agreed with the Head of Finance at final interview stage.

Badminton Scotland will provide the employee with a laptop and Office365 licence pre-installed (for the duration of the contract). It is expected that the employee will have access to reliable stable internet to allow working from home.

The role holder will receive 1to1 support and mentorship on balancing flexible hours and work-life balance.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications

You will ideally have a good level of IT and keyboard skills, and adequate literacy skills to produce letters and emails, but you must also be willing to learn and develop these skills. The ability to deal with athletes, customers, suppliers and colleagues respectfully is important, and you must also be able to maintain confidentiality as you may be handling personal information.

Some knowledge of Outlook and Office 365 would be advantageous, however full training will be provided for each process.

Time management and attention to detail is essential, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

A knowledge of Badminton would be helpful for this role, but not essential.

 

We are partnering with Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and accredited training providers who will provide the successful candidate with wraparound support to ensure the development of transferable skills. This includes:

* Eight hours of 1to1 support on employability skills such as time management, teamwork and communication

* Eight hours of 1to1 progression support including career advice, CV preparation, mock interviews and a personalized progression plan

* Introductions to and training on a range of software packages including the Office365 suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint). This will be followed by regular mentorship to use these packages as a part of learning the processes of the role.

* Further training courses as identified to help you achieve your best in the role.
