Mixed results for overseas Scots
Thursday was a day of mixed results for Scots competing in international competition.
At the SaarLorLux Open in Germany, Alex Dunn and Adam Hall won their opening men’s doubles match yesterday, beating Russians Anton Ivanov and Egor Okolov 21-9 21-11.
But today they were up against China’s Ou Xuanyi and Xiangyu Ren who proved too strong, winning 21-12 21-18 to end Scotland’s interest in the competition.
At the Hungarian International Holly Newall won her qualifying match with home player Reka Madarasz 21-10 21-15 to reach the main draw where she will face India’s Shikha Gautam in the first round.
But Jack MacGregor and Ciar Pringle couldn’t match that achievement in the men’s qualifying, with Pringle winning his opening match before succumbing to defeat to Serbia’s Ilija Pavlovic and MacGregor losing at the hands of Dane Kaj Sjang Lu.
They will now pair up to tackle the men’s doubles where they face Danish pair Mathias Moldt Baskjaer and Andreas Sondergaard in round 1 while Eleanor O’Donnell and Ciara Torrance are also up against Danish opposition in the women’s doubles in the form of Emilie Aalestrup and Cille Nielsen.
