SCOTSTOUN SHUTTLEMARK SILVER SUCCESS

Last week, our CEO Keith Russell had the pleasure of presenting Scotstoun Badminton Club with their Silver Shuttlemark Certificate during the club’s session.  Scotstoun Badminton Club are the 23rd club in Scotland to become a part of the Shuttlemark accreditation scheme, the 12th club in Scotland to achieve the Silver award.

Club Chair Gordon McCrae commented “it was great to have Keith visit the club and even better that he made time to sit down with me and a group of our parents and volunteers to hear about our badminton experiences”.

Since achieving the Bronze award last August, the club has expanded by introducing an additional Early’s Session from 17:00-19:00 on a Friday for 10 to 12 year olds.  This is credit to everyone involved, from coaches to volunteers, who have successfully led the club to this level of growth in membership, particularly during challenging times.

Furthermore, the club has been committed to increasing opportunities for girls to get involved in badminton through 12 week coaching blocks which began during the festive break.  In addition, the club’s new website is easy to use and provides accessible information on all the club’s activities.

On Shuttlemark, Gordon said “we decided to go for Shuttlemark as external accreditation is one of the first things parents look for when looking for a place to send their kids. For Scotstoun, the process has been straight-forward with only a few changes needed to make the grade”

The aim of Shuttlemark is to help support clubs reflect on current practice and use the programme to further identify areas that may require improvement or need to be addressed. Further to this, our aim is to ensure that junior badminton clubs in particular are safe and welcoming environments for people in the community to participate in badminton.

Well done Scotstoun Badminton Club, keep up the good work and we’ll be back to present your Gold award very soon!
