23 boys took part in the boys singles and 5 girls across all events.
In the boys event the seeded players all reached the quarter finals where Calum Tsang (Scotstoun) had a good 3 set victory over Cumbrian player Jamie Kemp and Yingfan Wang (Edinburgh) had a close victory over Drew Murdoch (Moray).
Calum then had by far the longest game of the day before losing to second seeded Melrick Dsouza (Edinburgh). The match took 50 minutes with Melrick winning 24-22,21-23, 22-20. Melrick then had to face his doubles partner Dylan Jia in the final and had to settle for the runners up spot losing 21-19, 21-9 to Dylan.
Calum was having a good day as in the doubles he partnered Vedant Shukla (Glasgow) and the 3rd seed pair reached the final but lost out there to top seeds Dylan & Melrick.
The girls singles was played as a pool and the top 2 seeds from Lanarkshire had to play the last game in the pool to decide the winner. Elona Kennedy and Arisha Manir have met several times recently in SSBU events and on this occasion the younger player took the title with an 21-18, 23-21 victory in a very hard fought tussle.
With only 5 girls present, the organisers were unable to find a doubles partner for Aberdeen player Annika Sinha who had finished third in the singles. This left Arisha & Elona to play Glasgow girls Zoe Tait and Zoe Dixon for the girls doubles title. Elona and Arisha are both playing well at present and took only 14 minutes to win the event.
The next age group event is on 11 February but players should now be submitting their entries for the Secondary Championships which will take place at Grange Academy Kilmarnock on 11 and 12 March.
