SSBU Round Up: Gibb Memorial Primary Quaich 2023
By Hugh Ainsley
Five primary school teams gathered at Wishaw Sports Centre on Saturday 25 February to take part in the Gibb Memorial Primary Quaich competition.
With some of our larger areas finding themselves unable to enter a team this year, the holders West End Primary from Elgin brought two teams to play in the event. They were joined by Redwell Primary (Central), Cardonald Primary (Glasgow) and St. Cadoc’s Primary (Renfrew).
The event was played as a pool with each team playing against all the other teams and 10 rubbers were played in every match.
There were a number of very close scorelines with a 24-22, a 23-21 and quite a few 22-20s. West End were once again the strong favourites and their second team did very well ending up in overall third place.
St. Cadoc’s were playing in the event for the first time but they played well and are keen to return. They finished in a strong second place but West End showed once again that badminton in the Moray area is strong with their A team losing only 2 rubbers in the whole event.
A huge well done to all players and winners and thank you to event organisers and volunteers who made the event run smoothly.
The finishing order was:
1) West End Primary
2) St. Cadoc’s Primary
3) West End Primary (2)
4) Cardonald Primary
5) Redwell Primary
The secondary school teams will meet at Perth on Wednesday 1 March.
