Swedish U17 Success for Iona Muir
Well done to Iona Muir who got to the final of the women’s singles in the Swedish U17 International (Friday 27 – Sunday 29 January 2023).
Iona was recognised as Junior Performance Athlete of the Year at our inaugural awards and it’s great to see her not only competing at International events like this but getting results and putting Scotland on the map.
The Swedish U17 International was a big draw with 64 players. Iona (seeded 4 in the competition) had a few good wins along the way, facing off against: Estonia, Netherlands, Ukraine, Germany and France.
Iona just fell short in the final, losing out 21-17 21-12 against tough 3rd seed Anastasiia Alymova of Ukraine.
In addition to her single’s success, Iona and her partner Deepti Vijayakumar got to the quarter finals of the women’s doubles – a great achievement considering it was the first time they’d played together in Europe. The pair came up against Maria Koriagina [1] and Yaroslava Vantsarovska of Ukraine [result: 21-8 21-10]
A huge well done Iona, we can’t wait to see what’s next!
