Tough Victory to Excellent Scotland Team at the 2020 EWTC
Kirsty Gilmour had a tough start playing against the former world champion Carolina Marin, losing 21-14 21-13. However that defeat was soon forgotten when Holly Newall overcame Manuela Diaz 21-12 21-4 to level the match. Rachel Sugden then took the opportunity to put Scotland ahead beating Ania Setien 21-13 21-14.
The victory was then sealed in the Women’s Doubles with Kirsty Gilmour and Eleanor O’Donnell comfortably winning 21-13 21-10 to give Scotland a 3-1 advantage.
Lastly, Julie Macpherson and Holly Newall took to court, however at just 4-4 in the 1st set the Spanish pair of Ania Setien and Lorena Usle withdrew from the match, meaning Scotland won the tie 4-1.
Scotland now face Sweden in their final and toughest match of the group stages, with Sweden having also beaten the seeds Spain 4-1.
