UK Para Badminton Championships: Round Up
It was a successful weekend for our Scots down at the UK Para Badminton Championships, held at the English Institute Sport in Sheffield from 9-11 December.
Classification took place on the Friday and Gregor Anderson received his first official classification as WH2. Gregor was runner up in WH2 Men’s Singles and again in the WH1-WH2 doubles partnering David Follett.
Strong competition across the SL3 saw Colin Leslie win singles and doubles runner up with Richard Lean in SL3-SL4.
Colin also competed in the SU5 Men’s Doubles with Jack Wilson where they were runners-up, Richard added a runner up in the SL4 singles.
Junior Logan Welsh in SL3 won a gruelling 3 setter in his pool against a fellow junior and also won a match in the SL3-SL4 doubles partnering with Daniel Lee.
Andrew Davies was successful in his SH6 playoff match for third place after coming second in his pool to eventual winner and World No 1 Jack Shephard, and the losing a very close semi to Isaac Dalgleish. He then teamed up with Isaac Maison and picked up a 3rd place in the SH6 doubles. Ross Foley had tough games in his pool on Saturday.
Mary Wilson was runner-up in both SL4 Singles and doubles, however, did one better and went onto win the SL3-SU5 Mixed Doubles with Antony Forster.
Well done to everyone who played and was involved, and a special mention to Scotland’s Head Para Coach, Kirsty Flockhart.
