Remuneration – This is a voluntary position, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed

Location – Badminton Scotland’s Head Office is in Glasgow, but the role will involve a degree of travelling

Contract type – this is a fixed term position for an initial period of 4 years

Job Description

Badminton Scotland is the governing body for the sport in Scotland.  The organisation is undergoing a significant period of change and has set itself the challenge of becoming the biggest participation sport in Scotland.  The Chairperson will lead the Board and in conjunction with the Chief Executive, set its agenda, and establish a strategy for the future of Badminton Scotland.  In addition the Chairperson will represent the interests of Badminton Scotland and act as an ambassador for the organisation nationally and internationally.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Working closely with the recently appointed Chief Executive lead on the development of the strategy to achieve the goals and objectives of Badminton Scotland and oversee its implementation

To lead the Board and ensure the members are properly informed to enable them to take decisions

Ensure the Board members undergo on-going development to enable them to carry out their duties

Chair relevant committees and ensure supporting actions and documentation is properly distributed

Ensure the Board acts within the law, Guidance Codes for Sport Governance and in the best interests of Badminton Scotland

Engage with stakeholders across Scotland, the rest of the UK and internationally

Drive the continuous growth and development of Badminton Scotland

 

Personal qualities

Interest in sport in general and the role sport plays in the wider community

Experience of chairing an organisation, setting its strategic direction and working closely with a Chief Executive

Good financial acumen within a commercial setting

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Commitment to equality and diversity

Ability to dedicate sufficient time to the role
