2025 Babolat Dunfermline Championships Report

The annual Babolat Dunfermline Championships were staged over the weekend Sat 11th/Sun 12th Jan at the new Dunfermline Learning Campus (DLC).

With the tournament attracting a large entry of 110 players from all across the country, it proved to be a very busy weekend with many exciting matches.

The Finals session on Sun afternoon opened with Mixed Doubles, where top seeds Zheng Wei Wong & Wen Jun Cheah retained their title with a straights set win over Evan Kenny & Toni Woods (seeded 2).

Next match on court was Mens Singles, the top 2 seeds progressing relatively smoothly from a huge entry of 44 players to reach the Final. In a high quality match, Matthew Waring (2) defeated Ciar Pringle (1) in straight sets.

The Womens Singles draw was very competitive throughout. Again the top 2 seeds reached the Final but both women had to overcome challenging matches on route. Vibha Raman (1) taken to 3 sets by both Amy Craig and Pranavi Singh (3/4), whilst Katrina Chan (2) narrowly overcame Eilidh McCallister in her first match. So it was no surprise to see another closely fought and exciting match in the Final, with Katrina coming out on top 22-20 in the deciding set.

Unseeded pair Wen Jun Cheah & Jane Yi Chiam defeated Emma Donald & Ella Haime (2) to reach the Womens Doubles Final. But top seeds Holly Newall & Toni Woods would prove too strong, taking the title with a straight sets win.

The last match of the tournament was a highly anticipated meeting of the Mens Doubles top seeds, with Calum Flockhart & Zheng Wei Wong (1) facing Callum Crangle & Josh Taylor (2). Both pairings had earlier come through very tough Semi Finals against Glen Lewington & Ciar Pringle (3/4) and Evan Kenny & Jack Riddell (3/4) respectively. Remarkably both Semi Finals had identical scores of 22-20, 24-22.

Played in very good spirit throughout, the Final delivered a very exciting and incredibly tense finish with Calum & Zheng Wei edging the final set 24-22. Congratulations to Zheng Wei on his double success! With a special mention to Callum & Josh for their contribution to a match that was a fitting end to the tournament.

DBA President Kirsty Flockhart gave a short speech of thanks to sponsors Babolat for their continued support of the event, the BSCO team for smooth running of the SF/Finals session, DBA volunteers and all players & spectators, before presenting the prizes.

Special thanks to Management & Staff at DLC for all their help & support to enable us to stage the Tournament at this fantastic new facility, which received many positive comments from players & spectators.
