Badminton Scotland names Russell Hogg Trust as first official charity partner

Badminton Scotland is proud to announce the Russell Hogg Trust as its first official charity partner, marking a significant step in the organisation’s commitment to making badminton more inclusive, accessible and connected to communities across Scotland.

The partnership brings together two organisations with closely aligned ambitions: to support para sport participation and to create more opportunities for children and young people from underprivileged backgrounds to access and enjoy sport.

The Russell Hogg Trust was established in memory of Russell Hogg, a former international badminton player whose life and legacy continue to inspire people across the badminton community. With trustees actively involved in the sport, the Trust has a strong and natural connection to Badminton Scotland’s work to grow badminton for everyone.

Through the partnership, Badminton Scotland will help raise the profile of the Trust through its website, communications activity and presence at National Championships and other key events. The organisations will also explore joint initiatives focused on para badminton and targeted activity in underprivileged communities.

“Russell believed deeply in the power of badminton and sport to bring people together and create opportunities. This partnership is a very special way to continue his legacy by helping more young people and more people with disabilities, experience the benefits of sport.”

Brooke Stalker, a current full-time High Performance player and Russell’s niece, will support the partnership as Charity Ambassador for the Russell Hogg Trust. Brooke will help bring the partnership to life through events, campaigns and engagement with schools, communities and para badminton participants.

“Badminton Scotland is delighted to welcome the Russell Hogg Trust as our first official charity partner. This partnership reflects our shared belief that badminton should be a sport for everyone. Together, we can strengthen para badminton pathways, support young people who face barriers to participation and create lasting impact in communities across Scotland.”

— Kevin Scott, Chair, Badminton Scotland

The partnership has been developed following positive discussions between Badminton Scotland CEO, Alan McMillan, a former men’s doubles partner of Russell’s and Russell’s wife Julie Hogg, giving both organisations confidence in the strength, intent and shared values behind the relationship.

The announcement reinforces Badminton Scotland’s wider commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and to using the profile of the sport to deliver meaningful social impact.
