Badminton Scotland remembers Gladys Allen

Badminton Scotland is very sad to hear of the passing of Gladys Allen, a much loved figure both in Lothian and in the wider Scottish badminton community. Gladys originally came from Aberdeen where both she and her sister, Muriel represented Scotland in the late fifties/early sixties. Gladys moved to Edinburgh where she married Walter. They had four children, Lesley, Jenny and Elinor and the late Graeme. Remarkably, Jenny and Elinor both represented Scotland over 100 times and are still the most capped Scottish women players of all time. Gladys taught Maths at Boroughmuir High School for many years and was also a stalwart of Lothian Badminton Group, serving as Group Secretary for several years and frequently helping at the table at Lothian tournaments. She was widely respected by everyone that knew her. Following retirement from teaching, Gladys worked for many years as a volunteer at the Oxfam shop in Morningside in Edinburgh.

Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.
