Czech International Future Series – Preview
17th June 2026 by Robert McLean
Four Scottish players are set to represent Scotland this week at the Czech International Future Series in České Budějovice, with competition getting underway on Thursday and valuable world ranking points on offer throughout the event.
The tournament is one of the most established stops on the European badminton circuit and has attracted a strong international field, providing an important opportunity for players to test themselves against opposition from across the continent.
Angus Meldrum begins his campaign in the men’s singles qualifying draw, where he will be aiming to secure a place in the main draw. The Scot will face either Austria’s Pascal Cheng or Czech home favourite Vojtěch Strejček in the Round of 64. With both potential opponents possessing international experience, Meldrum will need to be at his best from the opening shuttle as he looks to build momentum and advance through the qualifying rounds.
Also competing in men’s singles qualifying is Finlay Jack, who has been handed one of the toughest opening matches in the draw. Jack will take on Denmark’s Frederik Hinding, the seventh seed in qualifying and one of the leading young talents in the field. The encounter promises to be a stern test, but Jack will be hoping to produce a strong performance and upset the seeded Dane to keep his tournament hopes alive.
Scotland’s attention will also turn to the men’s doubles competition, where Evan Kenny and Josh Taylor enter directly into the main draw. The Scottish partnership will begin their challenge on Friday against Czech pair Vojtěch Strejček and Lukáš Thor. With home support behind their opponents, Kenny and Taylor can expect a competitive contest, but the pair will be looking to make a positive start and establish themselves in the latter stages of the tournament.
The Czech International Future Series regularly provides a platform for emerging players to gain valuable international experience and ranking points, with many competitors using the event as a stepping stone towards higher-level tournaments on the Badminton World Federation circuit. For Scotland’s representatives, the week offers another opportunity to continue their development against a strong and diverse field of international opposition.
Fans can follow every match live throughout the tournament on Badminton Europe TV, ensuring they can keep up with the progress of the Scottish contingent from the opening day through to Sunday’s finals.
We wish Angus, Finlay, Evan and Josh the very best of luck as they take to the courts in České Budějovice this week.
