Davies Makes Strong Start as Scotland Begins Japan Para Badminton International

8th September 2026 by Robert McLean

Andrew Davies and Owen Carmichael got their Japan Para Badminton International campaigns underway in Tokyo, with Davies making an impressive start to his group-stage campaign.

Davies opened his Group D campaign with a confident straight-games victory over Canada’s Langelier, winning 21-12, 21-15.

It was a particularly impressive result for Davies, who produced a solid and controlled performance against a player ranked inside the world’s top 25.

Carmichael faced a considerably tougher opening assignment in Group F, taking on India’s Muthusamy, the current world number nine. Despite battling hard throughout the contest, Carmichael was unable to find a way past his highly ranked opponent, going down in straight games.

The two Scots then joined forces in the men’s doubles later in the day, producing one of the highlights of the opening day.

Up against the number two seeds from Peru, Quispe and Salva, Davies and Carmichael delivered an excellent performance and pushed their experienced opponents all the way. The Scottish pairing narrowly missed out after a closely fought three-game contest, but their performance will provide plenty of encouragement heading into the remainder of the tournament.

With the opening day now complete, there is plenty more to come from the Scottish duo.

Day Two

Davies returns to the court against Solaimalai of India, while Carmichael faces De Oliveira Costa of Brazil in their next group-stage matches.

The pair will also reunite in the men’s doubles, where they take on Canada’s Kendrick and Lightfoot.

After a positive opening day, Davies and Carmichael will be looking to build on their performances as the tournament continues in Tokyo.

Good luck to Andrew and Owen for Day Two!
